What "kwik" is allowed to mean
A flooring job has two clocks running. One is administrative: how long it takes to get a measure booked, a quote back, material ordered, and a start date on the calendar. The other is physical: how long adhesive needs to cure, how long a self-levelling compound needs to go off, how long wood needs to sit in a room before it stops moving.
The first clock is where most of the waiting in this trade happens, and almost none of it is necessary. People routinely wait a fortnight for a quote on a floor that takes two days to lay. Kwik Flooring is built to compress that clock hard. Site visit, scope, material shortlist, number. Then a start date that holds.
The second clock is not ours to compress. It belongs to chemistry and to moisture, and it does not care how many jobs are stacked behind yours. Trying to beat it is how floors come back. So when we say fast, we mean fast at the parts that are made of paperwork and scheduling, and ordinary at the parts that are made of physics.
Four shortcuts account for most premature flooring failure: skipping a moisture test on a concrete slab, installing over a subfloor that is out of flatness tolerance, laying wood before it has acclimated, and walking or loading a glue-down floor before the adhesive has cured. Every one of them saves a day now and costs a floor later. None of them are visible on the day of handover, which is exactly why they keep happening.
The standards the crew actually installs to
Almost every argument about flooring quality can be settled by reading the manufacturer's installation instructions, because those instructions are also the terms of the warranty. A floor installed outside them is not covered, whatever the box said on the shelf. Five of those standards do the heavy lifting.
Flatness tolerance
Manufacturers publish a maximum deviation over a given span, usually a fraction of an inch over six or ten feet. It is checked with a long straightedge or a laser, never by eye and never by walking on it. Out-of-tolerance subfloor is what produces hollow-sounding spots, clicking seams, locking joints that separate, and cracked grout lines in tile. Correcting it means grinding the high spots and filling the low ones with a patching or levelling compound, which is unglamorous work that nobody ever sees. Moisture testing
Concrete releases water vapour for a very long time, and a slab that feels bone dry can still be pushing enough moisture to destroy an adhesive bond or swell a wood-fibre core. Slabs get tested rather than assumed. Wood subfloors and the flooring itself get metered too, and the two readings are compared, because the gap between them is what predicts movement after installation.
Acclimation
Wood keeps taking on and giving off moisture until it balances with the air around it, changing dimension as it goes. Boards delivered and left in the actual room drift toward the conditions they will spend their life in. Install them wetter than that and they shrink into gaps. Install them drier and they swell, cup and, in bad cases, lift off the fasteners. There is no repair for either that does not involve pulling the floor up. Expansion gaps
Every hard floor needs room to move at its perimeter, and every floating floor needs it at doorways, at long runs and anywhere it meets a fixed vertical. The gap is sized by the product and by the size of the room, then hidden under the base or the shoe moulding. Trim is not caulked tight to a floating floor. Skirting is not nailed through it. A floor pinned at the edges has nowhere to expand except upward, which is what buckling is.
Fastening, racking and layout
Nail and staple spacing is specified, not improvised. Adhesive gets the trowel notch the manufacturer names, because notch size sets the amount of glue and the amount of glue sets the bond. Before any of that, boards are laid out dry so colour, grain and length distribute across the room instead of clustering, and end joints are staggered far enough apart that the eye does not catch a repeating stairstep.

How you get kept told during the job
Most complaints about contractors are not complaints about workmanship. They are complaints about information: nobody said the crew was coming an hour later, nobody mentioned the extra day, nobody explained why a cost appeared. That is a solvable problem and it does not require an app.
- You approve a written scope before anything is ordered, so the number you saw is the number you agreed to.
- You know who is coming and roughly when, and you hear about it if that changes.
- Anything found under the old floor is photographed and raised the same day, with the options and what each one costs, before further work happens on that area.
- A change to the scope gets your say-so first. Nothing appears for the first time on an invoice.
- Questions go to one person who knows your job, not to whoever answers.
How we treat the house we are working in
A flooring installation is a demolition job followed by a finish job, run in a space where people live. Two things get respected: the parts of the house that are not being worked on, and the fact that you have to sleep there tonight.
Paths in and out are covered. Doorways to rooms outside the scope get sealed off so tear-out dust does not migrate, and return air vents get covered so the HVAC system does not carry it around the house for you. Cutting that can happen outside happens outside. Tools that take vacuum extraction get it.
At the end of each working day the site gets cleaned rather than left as it is, offcuts and packaging get gathered instead of stacked in a corner, and anything sharp comes off the floor. When the work is finished, furniture goes back where it came from, doors that had to be trimmed for the new height are rehung and tested, and the old flooring leaves with us. New flooring is rarely the same thickness as what came out, and interior doors do not adjust themselves. Tile over a mortar bed and a floating floor over a thick underlayment both gain height. Going from carpet with a plush pad to thin vinyl loses it. Height gets checked at the estimate against doors, appliance clearances under a dishwasher, and the bottom of stair risers, so it is a planned trim rather than a surprise on the last afternoon.
What happens at the final walkthrough
The handover is not a formality, and it is worth doing properly while the crew is still in the building. We walk the finished floor with you in daylight, looking along the length of the boards rather than straight down, because that is the angle at which lippage, seam gaps and a wavy row actually show.
Transitions get checked at every doorway and every change of material. Registers and thresholds get looked at. Doors get swung. Trim and shoe moulding get inspected along their length rather than at one spot. If anything wants correcting, it goes on a list there and then instead of turning into a phone call three weeks later.
Then you get told how to look after the specific surface you bought, which is not the same conversation for every material. Wood wants a damp mop and a wood-safe cleaner, never steam or vinegar. Laminate wants even less water than that. Tile wants attention paid to the grout rather than the tile. Common questions about how we work
Does a fast flooring company mean a rushed installation?
It should not. Speed belongs in quoting, scheduling, ordering and site turnaround, which are the parts of a flooring job that routinely waste weeks for no good reason. It does not belong in subfloor preparation, moisture testing, acclimation or adhesive cure times, because those are governed by physics and by the manufacturer's written instructions rather than by a calendar.

Work on that area stops, the finding is photographed, and you get told the same day with the options and what each one costs. Soft spots, elevated moisture readings and out-of-level areas are the three found most often. Covering any of them with a new floor turns a repair into a replacement later.
How much dust does a flooring installation create?
Tear-out and any cutting of tile, concrete or patching compound are the dusty stages. Dust gets controlled by cutting outdoors or in a contained area, using vacuum extraction on the tools that accept it, sealing doorways to rooms outside the scope, and covering return air vents so the HVAC system does not distribute it through the rest of the house.
What happens at the final walkthrough?
The floor is walked in daylight with you, sighting along the boards rather than looking straight down, so lippage, seam gaps, transitions and trim can be judged properly. Registers, thresholds, appliance clearances and door swings get tested. Anything you want corrected is listed then, and you are told which cleaning products are safe for the surface you chose.
